Guidelines for Discussion and Debate Empty
PostSubject: Guidelines for Discussion and Debate   Guidelines for Discussion and Debate EmptyThu Oct 14, 2010 10:51 pm

The one thing every Bones fan has…is an opinion! Very Happy Here are a few guidelines for voicing yours on the TFF forum.

There is a difference between criticism, disagreement and attack.

    a) Criticism is when someone claims there is a flaw in your argument. If you are
criticizing someone’s opinion, there needs to be an explanation as to why you believe the argument is flawed. Criticism without explanation is an ATTACK (see point “c” below) An example of constructive criticism: I don’t feel your point A works, because of B and C, A isn’t possible.

    b) Disagreements are usually when two or more persons have a different subjective opinion based on the exact same information. Example: A. “His eyes are too close together to be truly handsome.” B. “I have to admit I find him pleasing to look at.” (I’m sure you know the episode. ;) ) Both people are looking at the same man, but think differently about what that adds up to. While a person may try to prove their point using criticism, after a couple of rounds back and forth, it’s best to “agree to disagree.” Neither person is wrong nor right, they just think or feel differently about the subject.

    c) An attack is just doing things such as name-calling, speaking disrespectfully, or criticizing without explanation. For instance, person X writes: “I think A works because of B and C.” Person Y writes, “You always say that. B and C are stupid ideas anyway.” This would be considered an attack. “You always say that” is dismissive and disrespectful and “stupid” is not an argument. No person or idea is “stupid.” If you just don’t like what someone has posted you don’t need to say why. You can simply say that you disagree with what was said, and leave it at that. Better yet, ignore it and move on to the next post.

    d) Moderators and Administrators are on this board for a reason. They volunteer their time. Direct attacks on, and deliberately ignoring a warning from Moderators and Administrators will automatically result in a permanent ban from this board.

ATTACKS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THIS BOARD. Doing so may lead to receiving an official PM’d moderator warning. A person receiving three such warnings WILL be automatically banned.

Criticism can be witty or sharp without being cruel. Humor is definitely appreciated! We are not expected to all hold the same opinions on what’s occurring on the show. Just remember that whomever you disagree with is also here at TFF because “Bones” stole their heart.

Bottom line: Mean what you say, say what you mean, but DON’T say it mean. ;)

Due to recent events we have made a BIG change in the rules/regulations.

We no longer have a "three strikes you're out" policy. You now receive one strike.

Your first and only strike will be a PM from an administrator or moderator explaining the issue and why you are being warned. The offending post(s) will also be deleted.

If there is another offense you will be banned from the forum.

We really hate to do this but things are simply getting out of hand. Hopefully we will be able to go back to the "old way" in the near future.

3 Day Probationary Period for New Users

Once a new user account has been activated and approved by an administrator, the new member will be given a probationary period of 3 days from the date of activation. During this peirod, all posts made by the new member will be monitored closely by administrators and moderators, and the "one strike and you're out rule" will apply if any postings made by the new member go against the forum Guidelines for Discussion and Debate. Once the probationary period passes, the standard rules of the board will apply.

Please be advised that the implementation of this rule has been deemed necessary by the administrators of this forum, and the decision was made with TFF community's best interests in mind.
